WMImonitor Overview

It is easy to install, utilises any version of Microsoft SQL Server databases including the free SQL Express. It is accessible from a web browser and is fully scalable to cater for even the largest network.

The WMImonitor client agent does the PC auditing and is designed to use minimal PC resource and limited bandwidth consumption when the client machine sends data to the SQL server. to do this efficiently it utilises the Windows Management Instrumentation * and makes TCP/IP network connections to the central database.

IT Asset ManagementClient agent may be distributed or run from a login script or as a scheduled task and service for those servers that rarely get visited.

Operating Environment of WMImonitor

Full access to the server for Management, Enquiry and Reporting of data is available via a web browser from any PC. The application does not require a dedicated server.

  • Server-side installation using Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS).
  • Stand alone web application or integrated with sitehelpdesk-IT or sitewebdesk.
  • Microsoft SQL server back end database (any version).
  • WMImonitor agent client-side component can be installed as service or as an application (via Login script etc).
  • Agents run on any Microsoft platform.

* Windows Management Instrumentation

As the product  name suggests, the WMImonitor agent heavily utilises the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) which is the Microsoft implementation of Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM). This is an industry initiative to develop a standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment. WMI uses the Common Information Model (CIM) industry standard to represent systems, applications, networks, devices, and other managed components. CIM is developed and maintained by the Distributed Management Task Force. The integration and use of WMI ensures fast and efficient, non intrusive data collection techniques that do not burden local or network resources.

* Shared Open Source Code Definition

Shared Open Source code allows viewing and modification of web pages used in the application subject to the End User License agreement (EULA). Source code is only made available to license customers after purchase. It is not free software and does not transfer rights of ownership. This provides peace of mind that changes in requirements can be met over time and removes the need to hold ESCRO agreements for software security.
